MYCOPLASMA PNEUMONIAE ANTIBODIES (IgG + IgM)
What This Test Measures
This panel evaluates antibodies to Mycoplasma pneumoniae, an atypical bacterial infection that can affect the respiratory system and trigger immune-mediated symptoms.
- IgM → suggests recent or active infection
- IgG → indicates past exposure or chronic immune activation
Clinical Use
Mycoplasma is a recognized trigger in PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) and may contribute to:
- Sudden behavioral or mood changes
- Anxiety, OCD-like symptoms
- Chronic inflammation or immune dysregulation
Why It Matters
In patients with neuropsychiatric symptoms and negative strep testing, Mycoplasma can represent a non-strep infectious trigger driving immune activation.
Identifying this allows for more targeted treatment strategies.
