ANTI-DNase B Antibody
What This Test Measures
The Anti-DNase B test measures antibodies produced by the immune system in response to Group A Streptococcus (strep) infection. These antibodies target DNase B, an enzyme released by the bacteria.
Clinical Use
This test helps identify a recent or past strep-triggered immune response, even when a throat culture is negative or the infection has already resolved.
It is particularly useful in evaluating:
- Suspected PANDAS/PANS
- Post-streptococcal immune complications
- Cases where symptoms persist after apparent infection clearance
Why It Matters
A positive or elevated Anti-DNase B level supports the presence of a systemic immune response to strep, which may contribute to neurological or behavioral symptoms in susceptible individuals.
This test is often paired with an ASO titer for a more complete assessment.
